momentan sitzen Julian und ich bereits im Flughafen von Atlanta und vertreiben uns bis 16h25 die Zeit, dann nämlich geht unser Flug zurück nach Deutschland.
Hinter uns liegt eine sehr lange Fahrt vom Oklahoma Panhandle bis nach Dallas. Unser ursprünglicher Plan: den letzten Tag (Donnerstag also) gemütlich in Dallas/Fort Worth verbringen und uns die Stadt ansehen, evt. mit kleineren Shoppingeinlagen. Doch am Mittwochabend kristallisierte sich eine Änderung der Wetterlage hin zu einem "moderate risk" für schwere Gewitter und Superzellen im Bereich Südwestkansas und im nordwestlichen Zipfel von Oklahoma. Also setzten wir alles auf eine Karte und nahmen die stressige Unternehmung auf uns, Donnerstag bis zum Nachmittag von Dallas wieder nach Nordwesten zu fahren (gute 500 km) und dann in der Nacht zum Freitag wieder zurück.
Ja, eine ganz schöne Fahrerei, doch es hat sich gelohnt, denn wir konnten im Texas County eine riesige tornadische Zelle beobachten. Dieser Sturm war von der Struktur und von der Größe her noch beeindruckender als der Wakeeney, Kansas Sturm, der uns am letzten Dienstag den ersten Tornado brachte.
Da wir beide ziemlich müde sind, möchte ich diesen Blogbeitrag erstmal kurz halten. Anbei jedoch schonmal ein paar Bilder von gestern Abend. Während der Tornadowarnung für Guymon waren wir in der Stadt und hatten einen erstklassigen Blick auf Meso und Wallcloud. Die Bewegung über uns und die Stimmung waren extrem beeindruckend. Es hat einige Meilen westlich des Ortes auch für einen kurzen Tornado gereicht und nordwestlich unseres Standortes kamen im Niederschlagskern baseballgroße Hagelklötze herunter. Später wurden wir nach Einbruch der Dunkelheit südlich von Perryton, Texas noch von schweren Regenfällen, Blitzeinschlägen und Hagel bis 3 cm Korndurchmesser "erwischt".
